MenTek-AI®, by Centro San Luis, recognised as a European good practice in the Joint Research Centre report

Centro San Luis's track record in the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence applied to Vocational Education and Training (VET) has reached a new milestone. The Joint Research Centre (JRC), the European Commission's science and knowledge service, has included MenTek-AI® as a good practice in its report "Analysis of the integration of Artificial Intelligence in VET systems", which focuses on innovation projects for Vocational Education and Training in Austria, Belgium, Slovenia, Spain and the Netherlands, and explicitly cites our centre on two separate occasions within its analysis of Spain.

A benchmark report for European education policy

Published in 2026 by the Publications Office of the European Union, the study takes an in-depth look at 29 initiatives integrating AI into Vocational Education and Training across the five participating countries. Its aim is to give European education policymakers an evidence-based view of how AI is actually being adopted in VET on the ground, beyond statements of intent.

To that end, the work combines a literature review, interviews at three levels —macro (policymakers), meso (intermediary networks and institutions) and micro (centres and classrooms)— and the development of good practice fiches, validated together with the participating organisations themselves. The conceptual framework running through the entire report is "Digital Humanism": the idea that AI in education only adds value when it is designed and applied in the service of people, rather than the other way around.

Centro San Luis, one of only 2 Basque centres cited

Of the 29 case studies included in the report, only three Spanish VET centres are mentioned by name: CF Somorrostro, IES Talavera de la Reina and Centro San Luis. All three were named as key sources that provided transparency and practical information to ground the study in real institutional conditions.

Centro San Luis, together with CF Somorrostro, are also the only Basque centres cited in the entire document, placing Euskadi on the European map of references on AI applied to VET.

MenTek-AI: a good practice fiche of its own

The second mention of the centre comes in a different context: the report includes a specific good practice fiche dedicated to MenTek-AI® (identified as GP_MentekAI). In it, the JRC notes that Centro San Luis led the interdisciplinary creation of this tool, designed for the early detection of psychosocial risk.

The report highlights this initiative for extending the use of Artificial Intelligence into the field of wellbeing and socio-health care, demonstrating the feasibility of ethical, socially-oriented AI applications within Vocational Education and Training. This is no minor mention: of the 29 initiatives analysed, few approach AI from this human, care-centred perspective, and the report chooses Centro San Luis's initiative as an example of it.

It is also worth noting that this is not the first recognition the project has received: MenTek-AI® previously won the 1st National Award from the Ministry of Education in the Coexistence and Wellbeing in the School Environment category. Now being cited in a technical report by the European Commission confirms that the path taken holds validity and reach at European level.
